Welcome to Whet Your Wanderlust, a blog about my food experiences around the world.
Food has always played a major role in my life – and food and travel have been intertwined in my memories for as long as I can remember.
I was born in Las Vegas to Chinese parents who love to eat. They raised me to embrace food with an open mind, and this is how I grew to appreciate different cuisines and cultures.
I’m an adventurous eater who grew up eating chicken feet, sushi and bulgogi alongside American fast food and frozen dinners. I have fond memories of baking kelp cupcakes at summer camp at Catalina Island Marine Institute; visiting Hope, Arkansas (Bill Clinton’s hometown), at the time of the annual Watermelon Festival; and starting a food club on a whim when I was an undergrad at Bowdoin College. I’m as happy with a corn dog and a root beer float as I am with a bowl of flying fish eggs. I might stop at eating a deep-fried scorpion, but I won’t say no to a fruit bat curry.
I pride myself on my man-sized appetite, and my pet hate is wasting calories on bad food. I am always on the lookout for new foodie experiences, delicious restaurants, and all-around good grub.
I’ve eaten over 29,000 meals, travelled to over 70 countries and have lived in 6, including the USA, UK, Japan, Australia and India. I’m currently based in Dubai, UAE, a veritable haven for foodies with over 5,500 restaurants – from international chains to celebrity chef outposts to local Arabic shawarma shops and juice stands.
I started this blog to share my passions with you – from foodie travel inspiration to restaurant reviews to the weird and wonderful (deep-fried guinea pig anyone?). All roads lead to food. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by!
